Salzburg announced their intentions with a dominant performance over a skilled Matterhorn team; the Black Eagles expect a win whenever they leave Zermatt, but the Edelweiss handed them a 15-2 loss.

Defending Tyrol Cup holders Kitzbuhel dropped to a shocking 0-2-0 after Bern’s Captain, old reliable Otto Von Steiger, pushed across a skot with 15 seconds remaining as the Armed Bears won 14-13.  In a losing cause, Claus Binder, last season’s ‘Best Young Player’ award winner, was magnificent.

Player of the Week: Marcello Rinaldi, Gate for Cortina.  Cortina turned Trento away repeatedly in a clear 18-6 victory, and Rinaldi was flawless.  I could choose Paul Lackner every week until he cools off from the form he is displaying currently, and his cross-field tackle and subsequent 40-yard skot was the finest single play of the weekend, but he cannot expect to receive this plaudit each of the 18 weekends of the season.
